Occupation Certificate Signage Checklist (NSW) — Pass First Time

Why Signage Holds Up Occupation Certificates (OCs) in NSW

Signage is one of the most common reasons Occupation Certificates (OCs) are delayed in NSW. Certifiers must check that every fire, accessibility, and statutory sign is installed correctly, at the correct height, and compliant with the NCC 2022 and Australian Standards.

Here’s a practical checklist of the exact signs inspectors look for — all of which you can order directly from StatutorySigns.au.

  • Glass Safety Decals

    • NCC Part D3.12 & AS 1288.

    • On frameless or full‑height glass along paths of travel, provide a solid, unbroken ≥75 mm band (or equivalent indicator) across the full width of the panel, with the lower edge 900–1000 mm above finished floor, achieving ≥30% luminance contrast. This aligns with AS 1428.1 (access path visibility). Note that AS 1288 also permits manifestation in the 700–1200 mm zone (min 20 mm high) for general visibility; however, where an accessible path of travel is involved, the AS 1428.1 band at 900–1000 mm is typically expected by certifiers.
